Special Olympics Oregon
Little Bird Media Agency partnered with KOIN 6 in the fall of 2023 to create a 30 minute special for their client, Special Olympics Oregon. I was assigned as lead producer and was responsible for the development, production, and successful delivery of the project.
THE GOAL: Create a hosted special program that informs viewers of everything that Special Olympics Oregon does and inspires audiences to donate time and money to the non-profit.
With their goal and mission in mind, I wanted to create a piece that shared the voices of Special Olympics Athletes and pulled at the heartstrings of viewers. I worked with Little Bird Media and Special Olympics Oregon to source willing athletes and set up times to interview them. I also interviewed the CEO who provided the backbone of the story, while the athletes became the emotional story arcs. Using transcripts from nine interviews, I created a script that fulfilled multiple needs: it was informational, it was easy to follow, it was emotional, it had story arcs, and it included important stakeholders. I filled in any information gaps, including history of the national organization, with the host’s (KOIN 6 Travis Teich) script, which introduced and closed out each of the three segments.
The final video received praise from Special Olympics Oregon and from Special Olympic families. After its premiere, Little Bird Media secured another 30 minute special with KOIN for a different non-profit client, citing this project as the main reason they chose KOIN over other networks.
